Suitable for high powered 12V energisers

Simple solar assist panels which connect directly to your 12v Battery, extending the period between battery charges or sometimes cutting out the need for battery charges altogether.

Monocrystalline 30 watt solar assist panel with built-in charge regulator and sturdy mounting stake. Fitted with built-in charge controller to avoid over-charging and discharge of the battery.

The level at which the panel will extend the life of your battery is dependent on the power of your energiser and the duration and strength of available sunlight. The stronger the energiser, the more quickly it will draw power from the battery and the less time the panel has to replace the charge. The ability of the panel to produce and replace the energy used by your energiser is indicated by the watt capacity of the panel, so a 20 watt panel will replace the charger quicker than a 10 watt panel.

  • Connects to 12v external battery
  • Significantly extends the time period between battery charges
  • Built in charge controller to prevent against overcharging
  • Supplied with connection cable attached
  • Supplied with sturdy mounting stand

Hotline Solar Assist Panel | 30w FAQs

What do Hotline Solar Assist Panels actually do, and what sizes are available?

These are clip-on solar panels that hook up straight to a 12V battery to help you go longer between charges—and if the sun’s strong enough, you might not need to charge manually at all. They come in 10W, 20W, and 30W options (plus a 2.5W panel made just for the Shrike), each one including a built-in charge controller and a ground stand or mount.

Which wattage of Solar Assist Panel should I pick for my energiser?

The size of the panel you need depends on the energiser’s power (measured in joules) and the amount of sunlight available: the greater the energiser load or the weaker the winter sun, the larger the panel required. As a rough guideline, Hotline suggest that a 10W panel is suitable for smaller fencers (around 0.5J), while panels of 20W are ideal for the Gemini 120 or Falcon, whilst the 30W are better for bigger or more powerful units such as the Buzzard, but remember if you go for the 30W it will work with all the smaller models.

Do the Solar Assist Panels include a regulator, and how do I wire them in?

Yes, every panel comes with a built-in charge controller that stops overcharging and over-discharging. Just clip the panel onto your 12V battery, then connect your energiser to that same battery. The installation guide explains the LEDs on the regulator (for example orange means charging, green means full) and how to connect both the panel and energiser to the battery terminals.

How do I mount and aim the Solar Assist panel?

A robust stand is provided. Place it close to the energiser, facing south, and tilt it about 30° towards the midday sun; this position and angle optimise the charging speed. The angle may be adjusted seasonally for optimal performance.

What’s the difference between Solar Assist Panels, Fire Drake solar energisers, and the 2.5W Shrike panel?

Solar Assist Panels: independent chargers compatible with any 12V battery-powered energiser, designed to extend operating time and reduce the frequency of recharging.
Fire Drake solar energisers: complete units combining an energiser with a properly matched integrated solar panel and an internal battery, configured to replenish energy under typical UK conditions.
2.5W Shrike panel: a compact accessory specifically for the Shrike; it helps prolong battery life in sunny conditions but is not meant to power larger fencing units.
