Hotline Buzzard Energiser | Battery Powered FAQs

What type of battery do I need for the Hotline Buzzard energiser?

Most Buzzard models need a 12-volt rechargeable leisure battery, usually between 75 and 125Ah, to work properly. If the battery is hooked up the wrong way, a buzzer will go off, and the LED will switch from green (all good) to red (time to charge).

How much fence can the Buzzard energiser power?

Depending on the conditions, the Buzzard can energise up to 25km of electric fencing (single line), or a mix such as 20 sheep nets or 6 poultry nets when set to high power.

What’s the best power setting for a Hotline Buzzard energiser—High or Low?

The Buzzard offers two output options:

High: Best for training animals or deterring wildlife, and it’s also suggested for the first week of use

Low: Ideal once animals are familiar with the fence or when you want to save battery power

What are the most common troubleshooting steps for a Hotline Buzzard energiser?

If the energiser is not working properly, verify the following:

  • Your fence line needs a minimum of 3kV to function effectively
  • Make sure the grounding is adequate; for lengthy fences, several earth stakes should be driven one metre into the soil
  • Check that the LED is blinking green, which shows normal operation
  • Listen for the clicking sound, which signals that the transformer is active
