Which Collinson upper boot should I choose: Horizontal or 30°?
Choose based on how your auger line needs to leave the silo:
Horizontal upper boot for a straight-out run from the silo. (SKU 131RDE‑UBV02)
30° upper boot for an angled transition from the silo. (SKU 131RDE‑UBV30)
Both are “upper pickup” units intended to mount to the 450mm silo outlet and provide a shut-off slide.
What is a Collinson upper boot and what does it do?
An upper boot is the transition piece at the silo outlet that connects the bottom of the silo to the start of your centreless (shaftless) auger line. It helps guide feed from the silo into the auger system and (on these versions) includes a gate valve / cut‑off slide so you can shut off feed flow for servicing or maintenance.
Will a Collinson upper boot fit my silo outlet (what size is it designed for)?
These Collinson upper boot assemblies are designed to fit directly to an industry-standard silo outlet of 450mm diameter.
What’s included with a Collinson upper boot, does it come with a shut-off or slide valve?
Yes. The Collinson upper boot is manufactured from tough injection-moulded plastic and supplied complete with a cut‑off slide (gate valve slide unit).
What are the most common issues with a Collinson upper auger boot, and how do I troubleshoot them?
Feed leaking / dusting around the boot: Check the boot is seated flush on the silo outlet and that fasteners are evenly tightened; re-check the condition/fit of any sealing surfaces at the joint. (Upper boot mounts directly to the silo outlet, so alignment matters).
Poor feed flow into the auger line: Confirm the system is operating normally (the power head drives a flexible, spring-like, shaftless spiral inside a sealed tube), and inspect for obstructions or build-up around the inlet area.
Slide valve stiff / not closing fully: Ensure the path of the slide is clear of feed fines and the handle is not under mechanical strain from misalignment. Clean-out and re-test operation with the system stopped.
