What are the symptoms of a faulty safety device or coil?

A common sign is that the heater lights while you hold the button, but goes out when you release it. This can be caused by a problem with the safety device, the coil, or the thermocouple, so it’s best to troubleshoot safely

Which one do I need - 70117 (PU117) or 70115 (PU115)?

Choose PU117 if you’re replacing the coil only inside the safety system.
Choose PU115 if you’re replacing the whole safety device (flame failure device).

What is PU117 and what does it do?

PU117 is the “magnetic coil” (sometimes called the “magnetic coil small” or “interior coil”) found inside the Gasolec safety device (which is a flame-failure device). Its role is to work alongside the signal from the thermocouple so the safety device stays open when a flame is detected and shuts off when the flame goes out, stopping any unburnt gas from escaping.

Can you buy PU117 by itself, or only with the full safety device (PU115)?

Both choices are available. PU117 is offered as an individual spare part (like the “Magnetic Coil for Safety Device PU117”). However, the safety device PU115 (without the hose socket) comes with the PU117 “interior coil small,” so when you replace the entire safety device, you get a new coil included.

What are the common signs that the coil or safety device are faulty?

A common sign is that the heater lights up while you’re pressing the safety button but goes out as soon as you let go. This means the flame safety device isn’t staying open when the thermocouple should be keeping it on. Since SKU 70117 (PU117) is part of the safety device mechanism, a faulty coil could be why the safety device won’t stay engaged. However, similar issues can come from the thermocouple or the safety device itself, so it’s best to check the entire flame-failure system when diagnosing the problem.
