Hotline Gemini 80 Energiser | Battery or Mains Powered FAQs

What models are available in the Hotline Gemini series, and how do they differ?

The Gemini range includes three power options: Gemini 40 (0.80J stored / 0.45J output; effective up to about 8km), Gemini 80 (1.20J stored / 0.80J output; good for around 12km), and Gemini 120 (2.40J stored / 1.20J output; suitable for up to roughly 18km), so you can pick the right power based on your fence length and load.

How are Hotline Gemini energisers powered, mains or battery, and how easy is it to switch?

Every Gemini unit operates on dual power ("combi"): they can be powered either by a 12V external battery or by 230V mains using the provided adaptor. This feature makes them perfect for switching between portable battery configurations and low-maintenance mains setups without the need to purchase a second energiser.

Can I add a solar panel to reduce battery charging on a Hotline Gemini?

Yes. Gemini units are compatible with “Solar assist”—combine them with Hotline Solar Assist Panels (such as 20–30W) to lengthen the time between charges; select the wattage based on the energiser’s capacity and the amount of sunlight in your area.

What do the status lights on a Hotline Gemini indicate, and how can I tell when it’s time to recharge?

Each Gemini features a front LED that blinks green with every pulse; when the 12V battery starts to run low, the light switches to flashing red, signalling that it’s time to recharge to keep the battery healthy.

What do you get with a Hotline Gemini, and how do you set it up and earth it?

You’ll find the galvanised stand, battery, fence and earth leads, plus the mains adaptor in the box. If you’re using a battery, hook up the red (fence) and green (earth) leads to a 12V leisure or marine battery. For mains power, install it indoors or somewhere weatherproof, then run the HV lead-out cable to the fence and earth rod (make sure the earth rod is about 10m away from any buildings). We also suggest using at least one 1m earth rod, and adding more if the soil isn’t great.
