The system is intended to be used with an external 12V battery (commonly a 12V deep‑cycle battery), rather than being an all‑in‑one energiser with a built‑in battery.
Your battery is trickle charged when mains is available, so it’s ready when power cuts occur, power status is indicated with LEDs.

How is the MB series 12V Battery Backup installed and how does it connect?

It’s designed to be easy to install. The unit is connected between the mains power supply and the energiser, and also connected to an external 12V battery so it can switch automatically during a mains failure.
