Hotline Rigid Heavy Duty Plastic Warning Sign FAQs

Is it law to display a warning sign on an agricultural electric fence, and how far apart do you need to place them?

Yes, if your fence runs along or crosses any public access points (like a footpath, bridleway, road, or any spot the public can get to), you need to put up electric-fence warning signs. Make sure to put signs at gates or crossings and then every 50 metres or less along the part the public can reach.

When are electric fence signs legally required?

If a fence is next to or crosses a public path or any other route people can use, signs need to be put up so anyone coming from either side knows the fence is electrified. Local councils make this a must, and it matches the national safety rules followed by UK authorities.

For fences that are only on private farmland with no public access, signs usually aren’t required, but it’s still a smart idea to put them up to keep visitors safe.
