For many animals, an electric fence serves as a psychological barrier, and they need to be able to see it to steer clear of it. This aspect also plays a role in colour selection, products with low visual impact from a human perspective are also much harder for animals to notice.

Tape is more frequently used in equine settings, as it provides the highest visibility and is often chosen as an alternative to conventional fencing.
