Are the Hotline 12v Battery leads compatible with my Shrike energiser?

Yes—the BL1 battery lead (Part No. 47BL1) is specifically designed for the Shrike energiser model 47HLB100. It replaces the internal D-cell option, enabling the unit to run on an external 12 V battery.

How do I connect the 12V battery lead correctly to my system?

Release the energiser’s base by undoing the case clips. Attach the red crocodile clip to the Live/Fence terminal and the green clip to the Earth terminal on the base. Securely connect the other ends to the matching 12V battery terminals. Close the case and turn the device on.

What advantages does a 12V battery have compared to internal D-cells?

Longer battery life: The Shrike uses D-cell batteries that last about 6 weeks, while a 12V battery typically needs recharging every 4 weeks.
Reliable for off-grid or remote locations: External batteries are easier to manage and recharge, especially when paired with solar panels, making them more convenient than frequently changing D-cells.

So, although a 12V battery provides a bigger power reserve, it’s best suited for tough or off-grid conditions, while D-cells tend to last a bit longer in regular setups.
