Keep in mind that the grounding or earth passes through the metal posts of your electric fence or you can fix it onto a dedicated earth stake, where the S6 can be connected, there is no need for a separate earth cable. (See images) Additionally, positioning the electric fence higher allows the solar panel to receive more sunlight or daylight, resulting in increased and prolonged power supply.

No, Gallagher Solar energisers work off day light, and so they can still charge on dull days.
Where do I earth an S6 or S12 Energiser?
Drive the earth stake or rod at least 500mm into the ground, you then mount the S6 or S12 Earth connection to the rod, the earth connection is on the rear of the unit.
