The Independent Direct Drive units manufactured by Dalton Engineering have been in production since early 2001. They were developed with ease of maintenance being the primary objective, hence some of the unique design features.
The motor used is a standard metric frame motor, which is readily available throughout the UK from any reputable motor supplier. If the chain should wrap around the drive wheel, or a solid object is trapped, then it is a simple operation to remove the shaft fixing bolt and knock the output shaft back and through the rear of the gearbox, allowing the drive wheel and drive arm to drop off, releasing the chain.

Yes , all our Flat Chain Feeder Drive Units are available in both 1 and 3 phase.
Can I swap the motor on a Dalton Independent Drive Unit?
Yes, all of the Dalton supplies flat chain feeder drive units have removable motors, so there is no need to swap the whole unit should the motor fail. Simply remove 4 bolts and pull the motor free. Always ask an electrician to disconnect / reconnect a motor.
What do the legs do on a Dalton Drive Unit?
The legs are for stability when used in a free standing system. They are height adjustable.
Can the Single Track Flat Chain Feeder Drive Unit be suspended?
Yes, the Single Track Flat Chain Feeder Drive Unit can be suspended using a suitable suspension system.
Why is this Dalton drive unit specific to Layers and Broilers?
Our 12m per minute flat chain feeder drive units drive feed chain around the circuit at 12m per minute, this speed is ideal for layers and broilers as they are fed ad libitum, meaning they always have access to feed. Therefore chain speed can be slow as it is only replenishing existing feed.
