You can also monitor a section of fence for power surges.

What do I need for it to make a noise, flash or notify me?
The alarm unit itself can drive external alarms (depending on what you add), such as:
Siren and/or strobe/flash light options (accessories are available separately).
It can give an alarm to an external smartphone, siren, or flashing lights, with accessories available separately.
Optional accessories including a 12V siren (G56902), 12V blue strobe (G56901) and an SMS Controller (G56760)
What will trigger the Gallagher i Series Alarm System and what does it detect?
Typical triggers consist of:
Circuit interruptions like a gate opening or a wire being severed
Fence voltage falling beneath a preset minimum or alert threshold (for example, because of faults or wire breaks)
It can additionally detect power surges in a section of the fence
What does the Gallagher i Series Alarm System do?
It keeps track of a portion of your electric fence and sounds an alarm if an issue occurs, like a gate being opened or a wire being cut, activating external alert devices. Additionally, it can establish a connection between the energiser and a security system, alerting you when the fence voltage falls below an adequate level because of faults or breaks in the wire.
