Lubing Optima Pressure Regulator Valve For Poultry Drinkers FAQs

How do I correctly set or adjust the water column/pressure on the Optima regulator?

Use the red adjusting wheel at the lower surface of the regulator. Turn clockwise to increase the water column height, counter-clockwise to decrease.

The height of the water column is indicated by a red ball in the breather hose measured from the lower edge of the nipple pipe.

Tip: Always make sure the inlet pressure is within the prescribed range between 03 to 3 bar and that the water quality/filtering is adequate.

What are the key requirements for installation and what should I check before commissioning?

The regulator must be installed on a clean water line - ensure the feed is filtered, free of iron/lime build-up and no aggressive chemicals.

Remove transport plugs before installation; ensure transition pieces are correctly fitted, O-ring seals lubricated (e.g., acid-free grease) to avoid seal damage.

The regulator must be mounted so that its weight is supported (via mounting plate or holder) rather than just hanging on pipework.

Before first use: flush the line thoroughly after installation (especially after cutting pipe or pipework modifications) to remove chips or debris. Always be mindful not to get filings down the nipple pipe as this will affect the operation of the nipples.

What maintenance or flushing procedures must be followed to ensure reliable operation?

After each medication or cleaning of the water‐system, the regulator must be thoroughly flushed. Especially important if aggressive or solvent-based cleaning agents were used.

Use the red knob on the side of the regulator for flushing (turn 3-5 times counter-clockwise) to start flushing; then return knob to starting position to end.

Be aware of freezing risk: “Frost can destroy construction units of the pressure regulator!” — ensure protection from frost.

Aggressive cleaners or acids can damage the regulator components — avoid or confirm they are compatible.

What could cause irregular pressure behaviour (too high or too low water column) and how do I troubleshoot?

Possible causes & solutions:

If the water column is too low (birds not getting enough water): check that inlet supply pressure is adequate; check for blockages or dirt in the regulator/inlet pipe; ensure breather or venting is correct and not
obstructed.

If the water column is too high (risk of leaks or over‐supply): check that the adjusting wheel (manual version) or electronic setting (E-Control) is set to correct value; ensure inlet pressure not exceeding specification; check that seals are intact and there is no leak or internal damage.

Dirty or lime‐laden water can impair regulator function or cause drift in pressure behaviour — cleaning
or filter maintenance may be required.

What Spares can I get for the Lubing Optima pressure regulator?

Replacement flushing stem, diaphragm between the 2 body halves, hose tails, washers and breather tubes are all available.
