The Farming Equipment & Technology Fund 2026 is one of the most generous grant schemes available to English livestock farmers right now. Under the Animal Health & Welfare theme, you can claim 50% back on eligible weighing and EID equipment, that means a complete Gallagher system worth £2,500 could cost you just £1,250 after the grant. This guide explains exactly how it works and what you need to do.
What the FETF 2026 Covers for Weighing & EID
The two item codes that apply to Gallagher weighing and EID equipment are:
- FETF78 — Electronic identification and weighing equipment: Covers digital weigh heads including the Gallagher TW-1, TW-3, TWR-5, W0, and W1. Also covers complete automated weighing and drafting systems. Maximum grant value is 50% of the eligible purchase price.
- FETF79 — Livestock weighing platforms and load bars: Covers Gallagher wireless and wired load bars, and weighing platforms. Maximum grant value is 50%.
You can apply for both FETF78 and FETF79 items in a single application. This means you can fund a complete Gallagher system — weigh head plus load bars — in one application.

- Purchase from an approved supplier (Dalton Supplies is an approved supplier)

Most farmers complete the RPA application in under an hour once they have the quote in front of them. The hard part is usually remembering to do it. Set a reminder now.
What Happens After You Apply?
If your application is approved, you'll receive a grant offer letter. You must formally accept the offer within the specified window. Once accepted, you can purchase the equipment. When it arrives, you complete the installation and claim against your receipts.
The grant money is paid to you after purchase. It is not a discount at point of sale — you pay full price, then claim the 50% back. Make sure your cash flow can support this before ordering.
Don't Wait: Systems Sell Out Around Grant Deadlines
Every FETF scheme we've seen creates a rush of orders in the final two weeks before the deadline. Popular products — particularly the TW-1 and the 2,500kg wireless load bars — can go to low stock. If you leave your application until the final week of April, you may find yourself scrambling for stock or waiting longer for delivery than expected.
Apply now, secure your equipment, and claim your 50% back.
