PREMIUM® VDL Jansen Slats
The Premium® slats from VDL Jansen provide birds with comfort and help maintain hygienic conditions within the house, both of which are crucial for achieving optimal results. The slats feature rounded corners that minimize bacterial growth and prevent leg issues such as footpad dermatitis. Effective manure passage keeps the slats and nests clean. The slats are supported by flat galvanized bars, which are suspended from the nest side rail and rest on (perforated) plywood, wire mesh, or plastic fronts along the litter area. The back end can be closed off with wire mesh to stop hens from moving beneath the slatted area. VDL Jansen slats are made from virgin polypropylene, which is UV-stabilized and therefore white in colour. This UV-stabilized plastic resists breaking since it doesn’t age, and the material won’t splinter, preventing leg injuries. VDL Jansen slats are manufactured in-house at the Barneveld factory using a polished mould, resulting in a much smoother surface that allows for easy and thorough cleaning with a high-pressure cleaner.

Do Jansen slats work with other types of slats?
No, the Jansen slat is designed to work with the VDL Jansen nest system. Each nest manufacturer has their own design for slats. The differences are the way they interlock, the size and shape of the holes and how they work with pit boards and support bars.
What size are Jansen slats?
Jansen slats are always 575mm wide and are available in 1.0m or 1.2m length.
What are Jansen slats used for?
Jansen slats are used to form a cavity above a poultry house floor to allow droppings to drop through so the birds are free of their own manure. Because the bids can stay in a house for a full year or more this creates enough space for a years worth of manure.
How are Jansen slats fixed to the nest system?
The slat bar which supports the slats is hooked onto the front edge of the nest at one end and hooked onto a pit board at the other, the pit boards can vary in height depending on the size of the slatted area. e.g. If the slatted area is wider e.g. 2m then a lower pit board can be used or if the it’s only 1m wide then a higher pit board can be used.

VDL Jansen (Jansen Poultry Equipment Until 2022) was founded in 1986 by Mr A. H. Jansen for development and production of the first automatic laying nests. With his knowledge of technology and poultry, Mr Jansen succeeded in developing the most sought-after laying nest. Today the company offers a wide range of poultry systems and has grown to become a flourishing international company with its headquarters located in the Netherlands. On 1 October 2020 Jansen Poultry Equipment became part of the VDL Groep.
The current vision of VDL Jansen is still the same as that in which the company started in 1986. Optimal production results are inextricably tied to the behaviour, habits and health of the animals.
