Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance within the zone around a premises near Claydon, Mid Suffolk, Suffolk (AIV 2025/108), the 3km protection zone has ended and the area that formed it becomes part of the surveillance zone.

Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance around a premises near Ashcott, Wells and Mendip Hills, Somerset (AIV 2025/116), the 3km protection zone has ended and the area that formed it becomes part of the surveillance zone.

21 January 2026

Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance in the zone around a premises near Swaffham, Breckland, Norfolk (AIV 2025/103), the 3km protection zone has ended and the area that formed it becomes part of the surveillance zone.

19 January 2026

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in other captive birds in a backyard flock near Bacton, Mid Suffolk, Suffolk (AIV 2025/09).  A 3km Captive Bird (Monitoring) Controlled Zone has been declared around the premises. All poultry on the premises will be humanely culled. 

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in commercial poultry at a second premises near Bacton, Mid Suffolk, Suffolk (AIV 2026/10).  A 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone has been declared around the premises. All poultry on the premises will be humanely culled. 

Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance in the zone around a premises near Poringland, South Norfolk, Norfolk (AIV 2025/99), the surveillance zone has been revoked.

Following further testing of samples collected at the poultry premises near Mundford, Breckland, Norfolk (AIV 2026/07), the low pathogenic avian Influenza (LPAI) H5N1 has been confirmed.  The declaration has been updated but there are no changes to the measures within the zone.

16 January 2026

Following successful completion of disease control activity and surveillance within the zone surrounding a premises near Lawshall, Babergh, Suffolk (AIV 2025/106), the protection zone has ended and the area that formed it becomes part of the surveillance zone.

Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance around a premises near Preesall, Wyre, Lancashire (AIV 2025 86), the captive bird (monitoring) controlled zone has been revoked.

Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance in the zone around a premises near Attleborough, Breckland, Norfolk (AIV 2025/91), the surveillance zone has been revoked.

15 January 2026 – further update

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed at a third large commercial premises near York, York, North Yorkshire (AIV 2026/08).  A 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone has been declared around the premises. All poultry on the premises will be humanely culled. 

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed at a fourth premises near Penicuik, Scottish Borders (AIV 2026/06) on 15 January 2026. A 3km Protection Zone (PZ) and 10 km Surveillance Zone (SZ) are in place. All poultry on the premises will be humanely culled.

Low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) H5 was confirmed at a large commercial poultry premises near Mundford, Breckland, Norfolk (AIV 2026/07) on 15 January 2026. A 1km Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza Restricted Zone has been declared around the premises. All poultry on the premises will be humanely culled.
